🦉 SPOTTED: THE MYSTERIOUS OWL IN THE WILD! 🌿

During one of our recent adventures, we had a rare and magical encounter — an owl silently perched in the wild, watching over the savannah with its piercing eyes. A true symbol of mystery, the owl is one of the most fascinating — and misunderstood — birds in Kenya and beyond.

🌙 About the Owl

Owls are nocturnal birds of prey, known for:
✅ Exceptional night vision
✅ Almost silent flight
✅ A flexible neck that can turn up to 270 degrees
✅ Being skilled hunters of insects, rodents, and small animals

In Kenya, several owl species exist — including the Spotted Eagle-Owl, Barn Owl, and the Verreaux’s Eagle-Owl. They're more often heard than seen, making this sighting extra special!

🌟 Fun Fact:

Owls have asymmetrical ears, which helps them pinpoint even the faintest sound in the dark — a superpower in the bird world!

🔮 MYTH vs. TRUTH

In many African cultures, owls are surrounded by myths. One of the most common beliefs is:

“When an owl hoots near a home, someone will die.”

But here’s the truth:
👉 This is just a cultural myth, not based on science.
Owls hoot to communicate, mark territory, or find mates — not to predict misfortune. In fact, owls are important for our ecosystem because they help control rodent populations naturally.

At Zee Afri Tours, we embrace both the rich cultural stories of our land and the science that helps us understand nature better.
